2,924. Two Smart Nazirs

Hilchos Nezirus 8:19

Let’s say that someone says, “Behold, I am a nazir, plus I obligate myself to shave a nazir” (i.e., to provide his offerings). His friend hears and says, “Me, too.” In this case, the friend is a nazir but not obligated to provide another nazir’s offerings. This is because he only included himself in the first person’s vow as far as being a nazir. If he said, “Me, too, plus I obligate myself to shave a nazir,” then he is so obligated. If they’re smart, each of these two nazirs will bring offerings provided by the other. If not, they will each have to provide the offerings for other nazirs.

Hilchos Nezirus 8:20

Let’s say that someone says, “I obligate myself to shave half a nazir.” His friend hears and says, “I am also am a nazir and I also obligate myself to shave half a nazir.” If they’re smart, each will provide half of the other’s offerings, and each will then bring their remaining offerings using his own funds. Otherwise, each must provide half the offerings of any other nazir.
