(יז) וַֽיְהִ֧י הַמַּבּ֛וּל אַרְבָּעִ֥ים י֖וֹם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ הַמַּ֗יִם וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ אֶת־הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַתָּ֖רׇם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (יח) וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ הַמַּ֛יִם וַיִּרְבּ֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ הַתֵּבָ֖ה עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַמָּֽיִם׃ (יט) וְהַמַּ֗יִם גָּ֥בְר֛וּ מְאֹ֥ד מְאֹ֖ד עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיְכֻסּ֗וּ כׇּל־הֶֽהָרִים֙ הַגְּבֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־תַּ֖חַת כׇּל־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (כ) חֲמֵ֨שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה אַמָּה֙ מִלְמַ֔עְלָה גָּבְר֖וּ הַמָּ֑יִם וַיְכֻסּ֖וּ הֶהָרִֽים׃ (כא) וַיִּגְוַ֞ע כׇּל־בָּשָׂ֣ר ׀ הָרֹמֵ֣שׂ עַל־הָאָ֗רֶץ בָּע֤וֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָה֙ וּבַ֣חַיָּ֔ה וּבְכׇל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְכֹ֖ל הָאָדָֽם׃ (כב) כֹּ֡ל אֲשֶׁר֩ נִשְׁמַת־ר֨וּחַ חַיִּ֜ים בְּאַפָּ֗יו מִכֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בֶּחָֽרָבָ֖ה מֵֽתוּ׃ (כג) וַיִּ֜מַח אֶֽת־כׇּל־הַיְק֣וּם ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה מֵאָדָ֤ם עַד־בְּהֵמָה֙ עַד־רֶ֙מֶשׂ֙ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיִּמָּח֖וּ מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּשָּׁ֧אֶר אַךְ־נֹ֛חַ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ בַּתֵּבָֽה׃ (כד) וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּמְאַ֖ת יֽוֹם׃

(יז) וַהֲוָה טוֹפָנָא אַרְבְּעִין יוֹמִין עַל אַרְעָא וּסְגִיאוּ מַיָּא וּנְטָלוּ יָת תֵּבוֹתָא וְאִתָּרָמַת מֵעַל אַרְעָא: (יח) וּתְקִיפוּ מַיָּא וּסְגִיאוּ לַחֲדָא עַל אַרְעָא וּמְהַלְּכָא תֵבוֹתָא עַל אַפֵּי מַיָּא: (יט) וּמַיָּא תְּקִיפוּ לַחֲדָא לַחֲדָא עַל אַרְעָא וְאִתְחֲפִיאוּ כָּל טוּרַיָּא רָמַיָּא דִּי תְחוֹת כָּל שְׁמַיָּא: (כ) חֲמֵשׁ עַשְׂרֵה אַמִּין מִלְעֵלָּא תְּקִיפוּ מַיָּא וְאִתְחֲפִיאוּ טוּרַיָא: (כא) וּמִית כָּל בִּשְׂרָא דְּרָחֵשׁ עַל אַרְעָא בְּעוֹפָא וּבִבְעִירָא וּבְחַיְתָא וּבְכָל רִחֲשָׁא דְּרָחֵשׁ עַל אַרְעָא וְכֹל אֱנָשָׁא: (כב) כֹּל דִּי נִשְׁמְתָא רוּחָא דְּחַיִּין בְּאַנְפוֹהִי מִכֹּל דִּי בְּיַבֶּשְׁתָּא מִיתוּ: (כג) וּמְחָא יָת כָּל יְקוּמָא דִּי עַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא מֵאֱנָשָׁא עַד בְּעִירָא עַד רִחֲשָׁא וְעַד עוֹפָא דִשְׁמַיָּא וְאִתְמְחִיאוּ מִן אַרְעָא וְאִשְׁתָּאַר בְּרַם נֹחַ וְדִי עִמֵּיהּ בְּתֵבוֹתָא: (כד) וּתְקִיפוּ מַיָּא עַל אַרְעָא מְאָה וְחַמְשִׁין יוֹמִין:

17. The flood was 40 days on the earth. The water increased and lifted the ark so that it rose above the earth. 18. The waters grew stronger and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark traveled on the face of the waters. 19. The waters grew increasingly stronger on the earth and covered all the tall mountains under the Heavens. 20. The waters swelled fifteen cubits higher and the mountains were covered. 21. All flesh that crawled upon the earth died – birds, domesticated animals, wild animals, all the creeping things that creeped on the earth, and all the people. 22. Everything that had the breath of life in its nostrils, everything on dry land, died. 23. All existence on the face of the earth was erased, from man to beast, to creeping things, to birds of the sky. They were erased from the earth so that only Noach and those with him in the ark remained. 24. The waters swelled upon the earth for 150 days.

Chapter 8

(א) וַיִּזְכֹּ֤ר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ וְאֵ֤ת כׇּל־הַֽחַיָּה֙ וְאֶת־כׇּל־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ בַּתֵּבָ֑ה וַיַּעֲבֵ֨ר אֱלֹהִ֥ים ר֙וּחַ֙ עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיָּשֹׁ֖כּוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃ (ב) וַיִּסָּֽכְרוּ֙ מַעְיְנֹ֣ת תְּה֔וֹם וַֽאֲרֻבֹּ֖ת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וַיִּכָּלֵ֥א הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם מִן־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (ג) וַיָּשֻׁ֧בוּ הַמַּ֛יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָ֖רֶץ הָל֣וֹךְ וָשׁ֑וֹב וַיַּחְסְר֣וּ הַמַּ֔יִם מִקְצֵ֕ה חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּמְאַ֖ת יֽוֹם׃ (ד) וַתָּ֤נַח הַתֵּבָה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָה־עָשָׂ֥ר י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ עַ֖ל הָרֵ֥י אֲרָרָֽט׃ (ה) וְהַמַּ֗יִם הָיוּ֙ הָל֣וֹךְ וְחָס֔וֹר עַ֖ד הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽעֲשִׂירִ֑י בָּֽעֲשִׂירִי֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ נִרְא֖וּ רָאשֵׁ֥י הֶֽהָרִֽים׃ (ו) וַֽיְהִ֕י מִקֵּ֖ץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֑וֹם וַיִּפְתַּ֣ח נֹ֔חַ אֶת־חַלּ֥וֹן הַתֵּבָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃ (ז) וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח אֶת־הָֽעֹרֵ֑ב וַיֵּצֵ֤א יָצוֹא֙ וָשׁ֔וֹב עַד־יְבֹ֥שֶׁת הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (ח) וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה מֵאִתּ֑וֹ לִרְאוֹת֙ הֲקַ֣לּוּ הַמַּ֔יִם מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (ט) וְלֹֽא־מָצְאָה֩ הַיּוֹנָ֨ה מָנ֜וֹחַ לְכַף־רַגְלָ֗הּ וַתָּ֤שׇׁב אֵלָיו֙ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֔ה כִּי־מַ֖יִם עַל־פְּנֵ֣י כׇל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙ וַיִּקָּחֶ֔הָ וַיָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ אֵלָ֖יו אֶל־הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (י) וַיָּ֣חֶל ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וַיֹּ֛סֶף שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃ (יא) וַתָּבֹ֨א אֵלָ֤יו הַיּוֹנָה֙ לְעֵ֣ת עֶ֔רֶב וְהִנֵּ֥ה עֲלֵה־זַ֖יִת טָרָ֣ף בְּפִ֑יהָ וַיֵּ֣דַע נֹ֔חַ כִּי־קַ֥לּוּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (יב) וַיִּיָּ֣חֶל ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וַיְשַׁלַּח֙ אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֔ה וְלֹֽא־יָסְפָ֥ה שׁוּב־אֵלָ֖יו עֽוֹד׃ (יג) וַֽ֠יְהִ֠י בְּאַחַ֨ת וְשֵׁשׁ־מֵא֜וֹת שָׁנָ֗ה בָּֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ חָֽרְב֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֣ל הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּ֤סַר נֹ֙חַ֙ אֶת־מִכְסֵ֣ה הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַיַּ֕רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה חָֽרְב֖וּ פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ (יד) וּבַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָ֧ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ יָבְשָׁ֖ה הָאָֽרֶץ׃ {ס}

(א) וּדְכִיר יְיָ יָת נֹחַ וְיָת כָּל חַיְתָא וְיָת כָּל בְּעִירָא דִּי עִמֵּיהּ בְּתֵבוֹתָא וְאַעְבַּר יְיָ רוּחָא עַל אַרְעָא וְנָחוּ מַיָּא: (ב) וְאִסְתְּכָרוּ מַבּוּעֵי תְהוֹמָא וְכַוֵּי שְׁמַיָּא וְאִתְכְּלִי מִטְרָא מִן שְׁמַיָּא: (ג) וְתָבוּ מַיָּא מֵעַל אַרְעָא אָזְלִין וְתָיְבִין וַחֲסָרוּ מַיָּא מִסּוֹף מְאָה וְחַמְשִׁין יוֹמִין: (ד) וְנָחַת תֵּבוֹתָא בְּיַרְחָא שְׁבִיעָאָה בְּשִׁבְעַת עֲשַׂר יוֹמָא לְיַרְחָא עַל טוּרֵי קַרְדּוּ: (ה) וּמַיָּא הֲווֹ אָזְלִין וְחָסְרִין עַד יַרְחָא עֲשִׂירָאָה בַּעֲשִׂירָאָה בְּחַד לְיַרְחָא אִתְחֲזִיאוּ רֵישֵׁי טוּרַיָּא: (ו) וַהֲוָה מִסּוֹף אַרְבְּעִין יוֹמִין וּפְתַח נֹחַ יָת כַּוַּת תֵּבוֹתָא דִּי עֲבָד: (ז) וְשַׁלַּח יָת עָרְבָּא וּנְפַק מִפַּק וְתַיִב עַד דְּיַבִּישׁוּ מַיָּא מֵעַל אַרְעָא: (ח) וְשַׁלַּח יָת יוֹנָה מִלְּוָתֵיהּ לְמֶחֱזֵי הֲקַלִּיאוּ מַיָּא מֵעַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא: (ט) וְלָא אַשְׁכַּחַת יוֹנָה מְנַח לְפַרְסַת רַגְלַהּ וְתָבַת לְוָתֵיהּ לְתֵבוֹתָא אֲרֵי מַיָּא עַל אַפֵּי כָל אַרְעָא וְאוֹשִׁיט יְדֵיהּ וְנָסְבַהּ וְאָעֵיל יָתַהּ לְוָתֵיהּ לְתֵבוֹתָא: (י) וְאוֹרִיךְ עוֹד שַׁבְעָא יוֹמִין אָחֳרָנִין וְאוֹסֵיף שַׁלַּח יָת יוֹנָה מִן תֵּבוֹתָא: (יא) וַאֲתַת לְוָתֵיהּ יוֹנָה לְעִדַּן רַמְשָׁא וְהָא טְרַף זֵיתָא תְּבִיר נָחִית בְּפוּמַהּ וִידַע נֹחַ אֲרֵי קַלִּיאוּ מַיָא מֵעַל אַרְעָא: (יב) וְאוֹרִיךְ עוֹד שַׁבְעָה יוֹמִין אָחֳרָנִין וְשַׁלַּח יָת יוֹנָה וְלָא אוֹסֵיפַת לְמִתּוּב לְוָתֵיהּ עוֹד: (יג) וַהֲוָה בְּשִׁתְּ מְאָה וְחַד שְׁנִין בְּקַדְמָאָה בְּחַד לְיַרְחָא נְגוּבוּ מַיָּא מֵעַל אַרְעָא וְאַעְדִּי נֹחַ יָת חוֹפָאָה דְּתֵבוֹתָא וַחֲזָא וְהָא נְגוּבוּ אַפֵּי אַרְעָא: (יד) וּבְיַרְחָא תִּנְיָנָא בְּעַשְׂרִין וְשַׁבְעָא יוֹמָא לְיַרְחָא יַבִּישַׁת אַרְעָא:

1. Hashem remembers[10] Noach and all the wild animals and all the domesticated animals that were with him in the ark. Hashem caused a wind to blow on the earth and the waters subsided. 2. The fountains of the deep and the floodgates of the Heavens were stopped up, and the rain stopped from the sky. 3. The waters receded from upon the earth. At the end of 150 days, the waters had diminished. 4. The ark came to rest in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Kardu (Kurdistan). 5. The waters continued diminishing until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible. 6. At the end of 40 days, Noach opened the window of the ark that he had made. 7. He sent out the raven; it went back and forth until the waters had dried up from the earth. 8. Then he sent the dove to see whether the waters had decreased from the face of the land. 9. The dove didn’t find a resting place for its foot so returned to him, to the ark, because there was water over all the earth. He stuck out his hand and took it, and he brought it into the ark with him. 10. He waited another seven days and he again sent the dove from the ark. 11. The dove returned to him towards evening and – behold! There was a plucked olive leaf resting in its mouth. Noach knew from this that the waters had decreased on the earth. 12. He waited yet another seven days and he sent the dove out but it didn’t continue to return to him again. 13. In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the waters started drying from upon the earth. When Noach removed the covering of the ark, he saw that the face of the land was drying. 14. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.

[10] Present tense, rather than “remembered” in the past tense, because God’s remembering never ends.
