2,576. An Animal That Was Struck
Hilchos Shechita 9:13
If someone hit an animal on the head and the blow extended to its tail, or if he hit it on the tail and the blow extended to its head, we are not concerned that it might have been rendered treif even if he hit it on its entire spine. If the rod with which he hit it had bumps at different spots, then we are concerned. We are also concerned if the head of the rod reached part of the spine, or if he hit the animal across the width of its spine.
Hilchos Shechita 9:14
If a bird is knocked against something solid, like a mound of grain, a pile of almonds, etc., we are concerned that its organs might have been crushed. If it’s knocked against something soft, like folded clothing, straw, ashes, etc., we are unconcerned.
