2,258. Wives in Different Countries

Hilchos Issurei Biah 21:28

A man may not marry a woman intending to divorce her as per Proverbs 3:29, “Do not plan evil against your neighbor and he will live securely with you.” If he tells her up front that he’s only marrying her for a temporary span, it is permitted.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 21:29

A man may not marry two women in different countries out of concern that if this arrangement continues for a long time, a brother may end up unwittingly marrying his sister, his mother’s sister, his father’s sister or some other relative. If the one with two wives is an important person whose family members are well known, then it’s permitted.
