2,021. Prohibited Relationships Punishable Through Burning

Hilchos Issurei Biah 1:5

The following are punishable by burning: relations with one’s wife’s daughter during the wife’s lifetime, relations with the daughter of her daughter, with the daughter of her son, with her mother, with her mother’s mother, with her father’s mother, with one’s own daughter, with his daughter’s daughter, and with his son’s daughter.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 1:6

The only prohibited relationship punishable by strangulation is adultery, as per Leviticus 20:10, “The adulterer and the adulteress shall surely die.” Whenever the Torah doesn’t specify a form of execution, it means strangulation. If an adulteress is the daughter of a kohein, she’s executed by burning and the adulterer is executed by strangulation as per verse 21:9, “If the daughter of a kohein starts to behave promiscuously, she is to be burnt with fire.” If the adulteress is a betrothed maiden, both she and the adulterer are stoned as per Deuteronomy 22:23-24, “When a virgin maiden.... stone them with stones.” When the Torah says, “They shall surely die, they are responsible for their own blood” (Leviticus 20:11, et al.), it refers to stoning.
