2,008. The Reward of a Wrongly-Accused Woman

Hilchos Sotah 3:22

If a sotah who was innocent drinks the water, she will become stronger and her face will shine. If she was afflicted by a medical condition, it will heal. Such a woman will conceive and give birth to a son. If she previously had difficulty in labor, she’ll now have easy labor. If she previously only gave birth to girls, she’ll now give birth to boys.

Hilchos Sotah 3:23

If witnesses claiming that the woman committed adultery arrive after she drank the water, she is divorced without being paid the value of her kesubah and she becomes prohibited to her husband. This is true even if none of the above afflictions happened to her because the water only tests a woman when there aren’t any witnesses to the adultery. Additionally, it’s always possible that her husband is guilty of sexual misconduct and that’s why the water didn’t test his wife. However, if one witness arrives and testifies that a woman committed adultery, she doesn’t become prohibited to her husband and they may remain married; this is because she drank the water.
