2,007. If a Woman has the Merit of Torah Study

Hilchos Sotah 3:20

If the accused woman has the merit of Torah study, her merit will prolong her life and she won’t die immediately; this is true even though a woman is not obligated in Torah study. Such a woman will gradually weaken and suffer serious illness until she dies a year, two years or three years later, depending on her merit. She will ultimately die with a swollen belly and ruptured “thigh.”

Hilchos Sotah 3:21

If a suspected woman drinks the bitter water and doesn’t die right away, she is permitted to her husband even if he’s a kohein. She remains permitted even if illness sets in and her limbs are afflicted, so long as her belly doesn’t swell and her “thigh” doesn’t rupture. Once her belly begins to swell and her “thigh” begins to rupture, she is certainly prohibited to her husband.
