If she continues to maintain her innocence, she is brought outside the eastern gate and made to stand there. If she usually wears white, she should wear black. If black looks good on her, she wears clothes that don’t make her appear attractive. Any gold or silver jewelry is removed from her.

Many women would gather around her because all the women present at the time were required to watch the ceremony “in order that all women will learn not to copy (her) immoral behavior” (Ezekiel 23:48). Men were also permitted to watch. The suspected woman stood among the others without a cloak or a veil, wearing just her clothes and her cap, the way that a woman would dress in her home.
