1,737. Gets Written in Adjacent Columns
Hilchos Geirushin 4:20
Let’s say that a scribe wrote two gets in adjacent columns of the same document. If the signatures of two witnesses appear with one get and the signatures of two witnesses appear with the other get, then the get is valid and whichever woman possesses the get is divorced.
Hilchos Geirushin 4:21
If the two gets written in adjacent columns were only signed by two witnesses across the width of both columns, then divorce is only effected when the document is possessed by the woman under whose get the signatures appear (presumably the righthand column, assuming that the witnesses signed from right to left). If the document is possessed by the woman under whose get the witnesses’ signatures do not appear, the get is not valid unless it is delivered to her in front of witnesses.
