492. HaMotzi and Mezonos
Brachos 3:11
Whenever HaMotzi is recited before eating something, the four brachos of bentching (grace after meals) are recited after, in their designated order. Whenever mezonos is recited before eating something, the “one bracha that is like three” (i.e., al hamichya) is recited after. As previously noted (3:10), rice is an exception to this rule.
Brachos 3:12
The above rule only applies when one ate more than an olive-sized portion. If one ate less than an olive-sized portion of bread or other foods, or if he drank less than a reviis (in the vicinity of three ounces) of wine or other beverages, he recites the appropriate bracha before eating or drinking but no bracha at all after.
