300. Kriyas Shema al HaMitah

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 7:2

After reciting the bracha described in 7:1, one recites the first section of Shema and goes to sleep. A man may do this even if his wife is sleeping with him. If he cannot stay awake, he should recite at least the first verse of Shema.

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 7:3

When a person wakes up after a night’s sleep, he recites the following while still in bed:

“My God, the soul that You placed within me is pure. You created it, You formed it, You breathed it into me, and You preserve it within me. Ultimately, You will take it from me and return it to me in the future. As long as my soul resides within me, I am thankful to You, Hashem, my God, Master of everything. Blessed are You, Hashem, Who restores souls to the deceased.”
