If a person finished harvesting his olives but he put one basketful aside, Rabbi Meir says he should add them to the vat in front of a kohein (to take charge of the olives as trumah). Rabbi Yehuda says he should immediately bring the kohein the key to the vat; Rabbi Shimon says he should do so within 24 hours.

Let’s say that a person put his olives in a basket to soften. If he did so in order to make them easier to press, they become susceptible to ritual impurity; if he did so to salt them (for eating), then Beis Shammai say they become susceptible and Beis Hillel say they remain insusceptible. If a person splits olives with unwashed hands, he renders them unclean.
