4,146. The Procedure for Sin Offerings

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 7:1

There is a Torah obligation to bring sin offerings according to the procedures delineated in the Torah. Sin offerings that are eaten are brought as follows: the animal is slaughtered and its blood sprinkled as discussed in chapter 5. It is skinned and the fats and organs are removed, after which they are salted and thrown on the fire; If one wants to put them in a vessel when bringing them to the altar, he may do so. The rest of the meat is eaten by male kohanim in the courtyard.

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 7:2

Sin offerings that are burned are brought as follows: the animal is slaughtered and its blood sprinkled as discussed. Then, the animal is torn open and the fats and organs removed. These are placed in a vessel, salted and thrown on the fire. The rest of the animal is taken outside the city, where it is cut up in the same manner as a burnt offering except that it retains its hide. These pieces are burned there in the beis hadeshen (the place of ashes; this will be discussed tomorrow, IY”H in halacha 4).
