The following things could be done all day long: the laying of hands, slaughtering, nipping the heads of bird offerings, burning on the altar, bringing flour offerings, sprinkling the blood, waving, taking the handful of flour offerings and bringing the additional Musaf offering. The fats and limbs could be burned on the altar fire all night long. The general rule is that a mitzvah that is to be performed by day is valid all day, and a mitzvah that is to be performed by night is valid all night. Nevertheless, those who are zealous will strive to perform mitzvos as quickly as possible.

Optimally, all sacrificial animals should be slaughtered only with a knife of the Temple vessels. That notwithstanding, if one slaughtered it with anything that is fit for slaughtering secular animals for food — even the edge of a reed — it is valid.
