4,079. Salting Offerings
Hilchos Issurei Mizbeiach 5:10
Optimally, no flour offerings should be brought from the new crop before the two loaves are brought on Shavuos. This is because Leviticus 23:17 refers to these loaves as “first fruits to God.” If someone did bring such an offering, it is fit. Libations may be brought from wine that was put aside on yom tov. (See Hilchos Shvisas Yom Tov 1:17-18.)
Hilchos Issurei Mizbeiach 5:11
There is a Torah obligation to salt offerings before they ascend the altar. This is as per Leviticus 2:13: “On all of your sacrifices you shall offer salt.” The only things brought on the altar without salt are the libations, the blood and the firewood. This is a matter of our oral tradition, with no supporting verse in the Written Torah. There is a Torah obligation to salt the meat thoroughly, as one does to meat before roasting it, by turning the limbs over and salting them. If one applied even the smallest trace of salt – even a single grain – it is nevertheless fit.
