If an animal of one species looks like a member of a different species, it is unfit to be brought as an offering even though it’s not crossbred. An example would be if a sheep gave birth to an animal that looked like a goat or vice versa. Even though it has some proper signs, it’s unfit like an animal with a permanent blemish. This is because there’s no blemish bigger than a physical change.

Similarly, if an animal had relations with a human, or a human had relations with an animal, if it was designated for idolatry or actually worshiped, it is unfit to be brought on the altar; this is so even though the latter two cases may still be eaten. This is as per Leviticus 22:25: “Their corruption is in them,” from which we learn that “corrupted” animals are unfit. Regarding relations between humans and animals, Genesis 6:12 says, “All flesh has been corrupted.” Regarding idolatry, Exodus 32:7 says, “Your nation has been corrupted.” Similarly, if an animal or a bird killed a human, it is comparable to one that had relations with a person and is unfit for the altar.
