#350: Choleh She'ein Bo Sakanah: Intro
Until now, we have discussed the category of mild illness with respect to Shabbat. Over the next series of posts, we will discuss many of the rules that relate to the category of “choleh she’ein bo sakanah” (lit. one who is sick but not in danger).
1. The category of choleh she’ein bo sakanah refers to individuals who are significantly ill, but not to the level which is life-threatening. As we will see going forward, there are halachic leniencies that apply for such a person more than one with a minor illness.
2. In general, a choleh she’ein bo sakanah is defined as someone who is bedridden due to illness, or one who feels that their entire body is weak, even if one can still walk around (Shulchan Aruch and Rema, O.C. 328:17). One who cannot function as a normal person is also classified in this category even if their entire body does not suffer. Tomorrow, we will discuss some examples of people in this category.
