#276: Examples of Zoreh

1. We mentioned yesterday that zoreh includes any manner of separating or removing undesired matter from a food or substance using natural or artificial wind. Therefore, one may not blow at a mixture of peanuts and their paper-thin coverings to separate them (Shevitat HaShabbat, Zoreh 13; Kitzur Hilchot Shabbat, Zoreh).

2. According to the Rema, one may not pour a thin stream of water out from a tall building with intent for the water to be blown into a mist. Likewise, according to the Rema, one would also not be allowed to shake out any type of powder outside on a windy day that would scatter in the wind. However, as discussed previously, many poskim permit these activities (R. Akiva Eiger; Bi’ur Halachah)
