3,905. Maintaining the Incense

Twice a year, the incense was re-ground. In the summer, it was spread out to keep it from getting musty. In the winter, it was stored so its aroma shouldn’t dissipate.

If honey was used in the incense, it was unfit for use. If the one preparing it left out any of the ingredients, it is a capital offense because this is a “strange incense.” If it was prepared a little at a time but in the right proportions, it is fit for use. This is so even if one made half a maneh of incense in the morning and another half-maneh in the afternoon.
