#223: Washing the Floor (Part 3)

1. Whenever one washes the floor in a permitted manner, one must make sure not to violate the prohibition of sechitah (squeezing) when using a mop or rag (Orchot Shabbat 18:47). One should either use a stick or gently use a cloth, towel, or paper towels to make sure no squeezing of liquid takes place.

2. Washing the entire countertop, bathroom toilet, or sink is permitted, as this is not considered to have the status of a floor (Chazon Ovadiah, Shabbat vol. 4; R. Nissim Karelitz, cited in Orchot Shabbat 18:50).
