3,889. The Quarters of the Kohanim

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 8:6

The kohanim on guard didn’t sleep in their uniforms. Rather, they folded them, put them by [but not under!] their heads and slept in their own clothes, on the ground. The practice of those who stood guard over the courtyards of kings was not to sleep in a bed.

Hilchos Beis HaBechirah 8:7

If one of the kohanim had a seminal emission, he would go down the underground winding staircase because the tunnels that opened to the Temple Mount were secular, not holy. The kohein in question would immerse in a mikvah, then go back and sit with the other kohanim until the gates were opened in the morning. When that happened, he would depart and go about his own business [because he was unable to serve that day].
