3,810. The Difference Between Redeeming Houses and Fields
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 12:2
Unlike ancestral fields, relatives cannot redeem houses in walled cities; only the seller can do so if he acquires the means. He may sell other property to redeem it, but he may not borrow the funds, nor may he redeem only part of it.
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 12:3
If the buyer of the house dies, the one who sold it can redeem it from the deceased’s son. Similarly, if the seller of the house dies, his son can redeem it during the twelve-month period.
