1,158. Working Two Species Together

175:2 We are not permitted to have work done by two different species, such as plowing or pulling a coach. It is forbidden even to lead the animals with one's voice, i.e., by calling to them, so long as they are harnessed together. Therefore, if a non-Jew has a wagon drawn by two species of animals and a Jew has a load being transported on this wagon, the Jew is not permitted to walk alongside the wagon. This is because we are concerned that he will call to the animals in order to make them move faster. This is prohibited because of driving two different types of animals.

175:3 If a wagon is being pulled by different species, one may not sit on it even if he is not driving them.
