1,140. Uttering the Names of Idols

167:11 It is forbidden to carry out business with idolators in a place where they gather together under the impression that their sins are forgiven there.

167:12 It's forbidden to utter the name of an idol, whether for some purpose - such as to tell a friend, "Wait for me next to such-and-such idol" - or whether it's for no reason at all, as per Exodus 23:13, "do not mention the name of other 'gods.'" It's likewise forbidden to cause idolators to say the name of their idols as the verse continues, "nor let it be heard by your mouth," i.e., you may not cause it to be heard. If a non-Jew owes the Jew an oath in some matter, some authorities are lenient and allow him to swear. There is no problem in mentioning the names of non-Jewish holidays even if they sound like the names of people, so long as one doesn't say them in a way that ascribes importance to them as their adherents do.
