The word “yashir” is rendered as “sang,” but it literally means “will sing.” Rashi cites the Talmud (Sanhedrin 91b) that this verse is an allusion to the future revival of the dead. Not only did Moshe lead the celebration to G-d at the sea, he will do so again in Messianic times.
