Chapter 19

(א) בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י לְצֵ֥את בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם בַּיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה בָּ֖אוּ מִדְבַּ֥ר סִינָֽי׃ (ב) וַיִּסְע֣וּ מֵרְפִידִ֗ים וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ מִדְבַּ֣ר סִינַ֔י וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַיִּֽחַן־שָׁ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נֶ֥גֶד הָהָֽר׃ (ג) וּמֹשֶׁ֥ה עָלָ֖ה אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֵלָ֤יו יְהֹוָה֙ מִן־הָהָ֣ר לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֤ה תֹאמַר֙ לְבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְתַגֵּ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ד) אַתֶּ֣ם רְאִיתֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתִי לְמִצְרָ֑יִם וָאֶשָּׂ֤א אֶתְכֶם֙ עַל־כַּנְפֵ֣י נְשָׁרִ֔ים וָאָבִ֥א אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃ (ה) וְעַתָּ֗ה אִם־שָׁמ֤וֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ בְּקֹלִ֔י וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֑י וִהְיִ֨יתֶם לִ֤י סְגֻלָּה֙ מִכׇּל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים כִּי־לִ֖י כׇּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (ו) וְאַתֶּ֧ם תִּהְיוּ־לִ֛י מַמְלֶ֥כֶת כֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְג֣וֹי קָד֑וֹשׁ אֵ֚לֶּה הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

(א) בְּיַרְחָא תְּלִיתָאָה לְמִפַּק בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאַרְעָא דְמִצְרָיִם בְּיוֹמָא הָדֵין אֲתוֹ לְמַדְבְּרָא דְסִינָי: (ב) וּנְטָלוּ מֵרְפִידִים וַאֲתוֹ לְמַדְבְּרָא דְסִינָי וּשְׁרוֹ בְּמַדְבְּרָא וּשְׁרָא תַמָן יִשְׂרָאֵל לָקֳבֵל טוּרָא: (ג) וּמשֶׁה סְלֵק קֳדָם יְיָ וּקְרָא לֵהּ יְיָ מִן טוּרָא לְמֵימַר כִּדְנַן תֵּימַר לְבֵית יַעֲקֹב וּתְחַוִי לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: (ד) אַתּוּן חֲזִתּוּן דִי עֲבָדִית לְמִצְרָיִם וּנְטָלִית (נ"א וְאַטְלִית) יָתְכוֹן כִּדְעַל גַדְפֵי נִשְׁרִין וְקָרֵבִית יָתְכוֹן לְפָלְחָנִי: (ה) וּכְעַן אִם קַבָּלָא תְקַבְּלוּן לְמֵימְרִי וְתִטְרוּן יָת קְיָמִי וּתְהוֹן קֳדָמַי חַבִּיבִין מִכָּל עַמְמַיָא אֲרֵי דִי לִי כָּל אַרְעָא: (ו) וְאַתּוּן תְּהוֹן קֳדָמַי מַלְכִין כָּהֲנִין וְעַם קַדִישׁ אִלֵין פִּתְגָמַיָא דִי תְמַלֵל עִם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל:

1. In the third month of the departure of the children of Israel from the land of Egypt, on that day, they came to the Sinai wilderness. 2. They traveled from Refidim and they came to the Sinai wilderness, and they camped in the wilderness. Israel camped there opposite the mountain, 3. Moshe went up before Hashem. Hashem called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus shall you say to the house of Yaakov and tell the children of Israel: 4. ‘You saw what I did to Egypt, and I carried you as if[1] on eagles’ wings and brought you near to My service. 5. Now, if you will surely accept My word[2] and observe My covenant, you will be beloved before Me[3] of all the peoples because the entire Earth is Mine. 6. You will be before Me kings, priests[4] and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak with the children of Israel.”

[1] Onkelos clarifies that the pasuk is speaking metaphorically.

[2] Rather than “if you faithfully hearken to My voice.”

[3] Rather than “a treasure to Me.”

[4] Rather than “kingdom of priests.”
