2,601. When Buyers Must Be Informed

Hilchos Shechita 12:13

Let’s say that one person bought the mother and another bought its young. They both want to slaughter, so they go for judgment. The one who purchased first has the right to slaughter first, and the other must wait until the next day. If the second person slaughtered first, the first must wait until the next day.

Hilchos Shechita 12:14

Four times a year, one who sells an animal must inform the buyer that he already sold the animal’s mother or daughter to someone else for the purpose of slaughter, so that the new buyer won’t slaughter until the next day. These are: the day before the last yom tov of Succos, the day before the first yom tov of Pesach, the day before Shavuos and the day before Rosh Hashana.
