2,594. The Rambam Disapproves

Hilchos Shechita 11:14

If a non-Jew or a Jew comes and removes a lung before it’s inspected but the lung continues to exist, we inflate it regardless of whether or not there were adhesions, because of the common practice.

Hilchos Shechita 11:15

Some places prohibit an animal if there are adhesions hanging from the lung even if they don’t attach to the chest or elsewhere. This practice causes its adherents to forfeit a lot of money and was never adopted in France or Spain, and it was unknown in the West. The Rambam doesn’t approve of this practice, preferring simply to inflate the lungs. If they’re found to be intact and unpunctured, the animal is permitted.
