2,579. A Bird That Was Stepped On

Hilchos Shechita 9:19

If an animal fell from the roof and then didn’t stand, it may not be slaughtered until one has waited an entire day; if the animal is slaughtered during this time, it’s a treifa. When slaughtering it after a day has passed, it must be examined as was discussed in halacha 9:17.

Hilchos Shechita 9:20

Similarly, if someone stepped on a bird, if an animal trampled it, or if it was pressed against a wall and is convulsing, we leave it alive for a day. After this, it may be slaughtered and examined, as has been discussed.
