If the whole lung looks like two rows instead of being divided into lobes, the animal’s a treifa. If the lung itself is deficient even if it’s not punctured, it’s the same as if the requisite number of lobes is deficient and the animal’s a treifa. Therefore, if one finds a dried part of any size that can be scraped away with a fingernail, it’s considered deficient and the animal’s a treifa.

If a lung is found to be inflated like the leaves of a palm tree, the animal is prohibited out of doubt because this is an anomalous appendage. Such an appendage might be equivalent to a deficiency in the animal, as is the case regarding the number of lobes.
