2,443. Three Things Mixed Together

Maachalos Assuros 15:22

Let’s say that two things of the same kind and a thing of a different kind get mixed together. For example, if there was a pot with fat from the tail and beans, then fat from the kidneys fell into it and the whole things melted into a single mass. In such a case, we consider the fat from the tail and the beans to be one thing and we measure the fat from the kidneys against it. If the ratio is 60:1, it is permitted because then the flavor of the forbidden fat can’t be tasted.

The same rule applies to trumah, whose volume to nullify is 100, and to orlah and mixed species from a vineyard, whose volume to nullify is 200.
