2,196. Rendering Impotent

Hilchos Issurei Biah 16:11

Pursuant to the previous halacha, if one person severed a man’s male organ, another castrated him and a third cut his seminal tract, all three receive lashes. The same is true if one person crushed a man’s organ, another pulled it away and a third severed it. This is so even though the last person is castrating a human, a domesticated animal, a wild animal or a bird that had already been castrated. One who castrates a female human or animal is not liable.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 16:12

It is prohibited to serve a male human or animal a potion that will make him impotent, though lashes are not imposed for doing so. A woman is permitted to drink a potion that will make her infertile. If a person tied a man up and turned a dog or other animal loose on him until his male member was damaged, or if he made him sit in water or snow until he became impotent, he is not subject to lashes – one must actively castrate a male in order to be liable – but he should be given stripes for acting rebelliously.
