2,166. Informing the Convert About the Next World

Hilchos Issurei Biah 14:3

Just as a potential convert is informed of the punishment for violating the mitzvos, he is informed about the reward for observing them. We tell him that by keeping the mitzvot, he will earn life in the Next World. There is none so righteous as a wise person who knows and observes the mitzvos.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 14:4

We tell the potential convert that the Next World is put aside for the righteous, who are the Jews. The reason we see Jews suffering in this world is because their reward is reserved for the Next World. They can’t receive too much goodness in this world because their hearts might become haughty, causing them to make errors in judgment and lose their reward in the Next World as per Deuteronomy 32:15, “Yeshurun grew fat and kicked” (i.e., the Jews grew prosperous and rebelled).
