2,157. Non-Jews Join the Covenant Just as Jews Did

Hilchos Issurei Biah 13:3

Immersion was performed in the wilderness before the Torah was given as per Exodus 19:10, “Sanctify them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their clothes.” The offerings were also brought at that time as per Exodus 24:5, “He sent the young men of the children of Israel and they brought burnt offerings.” They offered the sacrifices on behalf of the entire nation.

Hilchos Issurei Biah 13:4

Similar to the Jews accepting the Torah, when non-Jews throughout the generations want to accept the Torah and join the Jewish people, they must be circumcised, immerse in a mikvah and bring an offering. A woman must immerse and bring an offering as per Numbers 15:15, “There shall be one law for you and for the convert.” Just as you (i.e., born Jews) accepted the Torah through circumcision, immersion and an offering, converts must also be circumcised, immerse and bring an offering.
