2,014. Erasing the Scroll

Hilchos Sotah 4:10

If any trace of the writing remains after the scroll has been blotted out, it is invalid until the writing is completely eradicated. If the kohein writes one letter and blots it out, then another letter and blots it out, completing the entire scroll in this fashion, it is invalid; the scroll must be written out in its entirety (before being blotted out).

Hilchos Sotah 4:11

If the scroll wasn’t written for this particular woman, or it wasn’t blotted out for this particular woman, it is invalid. If a kohein wrote two scrolls for two different women and he blotted them out in the same vessel, or if he blotted them out in two vessels but he then mixed the waters together in one vessel and gave it to both women to drink from, it is invalid because neither woman will be drinking exclusively from the water of her own scroll. If the scrolls of two women were blotted out in two different vessels, then their waters were mixed together and separated again into two different vessels, the women shouldn’t be given this water to drink but if they were made to drink it, it is valid. If a suspected woman’s water is spilled, the kohein must write another scroll and bring more water. If the water spills but there’s still some left, the woman shouldn’t be made to drink it but if she does, it is valid.
