1,909. If a Yavam Gives a Yevama a Get
Yibum v’Chalitzah 4:35
When a chalitzah document or a kesubah is written for a yevama, the Torah verses must be written on ruled lines because it is prohibited to write three words of Torah not on a ruled line. A yevama who performs chalitzah may marry on the day on which she performed chalitzah because chalitzah is only performed once 90 days have passed from her husband’s death.
Yibum v’Chalitzah 5:1
If a yavam gives his yevama a get, he precludes her or any other of his brother’s other widows from performing yibum with him or any other surviving brothers the same as if he had performed chalitzah with her. A get’s ability to impact a yevama is a rabbinic enactment. Since a get can divorce a married woman, and since a get disqualifies a woman from marrying a kohein, the Sages enacted that it should also disqualify a yevama from performing yibum. She may not, however, marry anyone else until she performs chalitzah.
