Chazara for Chagigah chapter 2
Daf 11
ยท ืืฉื ื : One cannot be ืืืจืฉ in ืขืจืืืช in front of three, nor ืืขืฉื ืืจืืฉืืช in front of two, nor ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื in front of even one unless he is one who understands things on his own.
ยท One who looks at the following 4 things, it is better that he not have been created: What is above and below (according to ืจืฉ"ื this means what is above and below the ืจืงืืข of the ืืืืช), behind and in front (according to ืจืฉ"ื this means beyond east and west). One who is not careful is the honor of Hashem is also better that they not have been born.
ยท ืืืจื: The words ืืืฉ ืืืฉ by ืขืจืืืช, ืืจืืช ื and ืข"ื come to include ื ืืจืื which are ืืืื in them.
ยท ืืื ืืืจืฉืื ืืขืจืืืช ืืคืจืืกืื means ืกืชืจื ืขืจืืืช (not ืืคืืจืฉ ืืคึผืกืืง). The reason is because two students wont be listening when the other student is saying things to the Rebbe. The reason we are only concerned by ืขืจืืืช is because ื ืคืฉื ืฉื ืืื ืืืืืชื. Even though thatโs true by ืืื too, itโs only true ืฉืื ืืคื ืื by ืขืจืืืช.
ยท ืื ืฉืื ื ื ืืืืื ืจืืฉืื ืื tells us that only a ืืืื can ask about ืืขืฉื ืืจืืฉืืช. He can ask about the first six days but not about what was before that.
Daf 12
ยท ืืื ืืจืืฉืื was as tall as from heaven to earth which is the same distance as from one end of the earth to the other. After he sinned Hashem made him smaller.
ยท Ten things were created on the first day: Heaven, Earth and all the things mentioned in the first few ืคึผืกืืงืื, including light.
ยท There is a ืืืืืงืช ืชื ืืื as to which light was created on the first day. ืจืื ืืืขืืจ says it was a special light which Hashem saw was unfit for ืจืฉืขืื and hid it for the ืฆืืืงืื. However, the ืืืืื say that it was regular sunlight but the ืืืืจืืช were only hung in the sky on day four.
ยท Hashem created the world with ten things: ืืืื, ืชืืื ื, ืืขืช, ืื, ืืขืจื, ืืืืจื, ืฆืืง, ืืฉืคึผื,ืืกื, ืืจืืืื.
ยท The world was expanding like two rolls of wool till Hashem screamed at it. Same for seas. Thatโs where the name ืฉืงื comes from.
ยท ื"ืฉ says heaven was created first as a ืคึผืกืืง says. Plus first you build the throne and then the footstool. ื"ื says Earth was created first as a ืคึผืกืืง says, plus you make main floor before attic. ืืืืื says they were made at the same time.
ยท ืืช ืืฉืืื and ืืช ืืืจืฅ tell you that Hashems name is not ืืฉืืื ืืืืจืฅ.
ยท The world stands on pillars which stand on water which stand on mountains which stand on wind which stands on storms which is supported by Hashemโs ืืจืืข.
ยท The ืืืืื say the world stands on 12 pillars, some say 7, ืจ"ื ืื ืฉืืืข says 1, and ืจ' ืืืืื says 2.
ยท The seven heavens are:
o ืืืืื-nothing. J
o ืจืงืืขโwhere sun, moon, and ืืืืืช are
o ืฉืืงืืโwhere a mill makes ืื for ืฆืืืงืื
o ืืืื-Where ืืจืืฉืืื, ืืืช ืืืงืืฉ, ืืืื are located and ืืืืื brings ืงืจืื ืืช
o ืืขืืโWhere ืืืืื ืืฉืจืช sing ืฉืืจื at night and are silent by day so ืืฉืจืื can say ืฉืืจื.
o ืืืืโWhere snow, hail, bad dews, a room of storms and cave of smokes. All for punishments. However, ืืื ืืืื brought these down to earth.
Someone who learns Torah at night gets a ืืื ืฉื ืืกื ืขื ืจืืฉื. Another version is someone who learns in ืขืืื ืืื will get a ืืื ืฉื ืืกื in ืขืืื ืืื.
Daf 13
ยท ืจ' ืืื ืืจ ืืงืื says there is an eighth level of heaven which is above the heads of the ืืืืช.
ยท One is not allowed to be ืืชืืื ื more than that.
ยท ืจืื ืืืื ื ืื ืืืื said that the response to ื ืืืืื ืฆืจ who said he would rise to Hashem in heaven was that a person only lives eighty years and that from earth to Heaven is a five hundred year journey, then each level of Heaven as well as the thickness of each Heaven is five hundred years. Above that, each part of the ืืืืช and each part of the ืืกื ืืืืื is ืื ืื ืืืื. So he will never make it but rather will go down to ืฉืืื.
ยท ืจืื ืืืื says that while ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื canโt even be taught to an individual who is not someone who understands much on his own, you can give over ืจืืฉื ืคึผืจืงืื. However, ืจืื ืืืจื says even ืจืืฉื ืคึผืจืงืื requires an ืื ื"ื and ืืืื ืืืื ืืงืจืื. Another version is either or.
ยท ืจืื ืืื says you can only give ืกืชืจื ืชืืจื to someone who has five things which the ืืืจื explains later.
ยท ืจืื ืืื says you cant teach Torah to a ืขืื"ื as it says ืืฉืคึผืืื ืื ืืืขืื.
ยท There is the story of ืจ"ื seeming to miss the opportunity to learn ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื, and we also have ืจื ืืืกืฃ learning ืืขืฉื ืืจืืฉืืช from ืกืื ืคึผืืืืืืชื but not teaching them in turn ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื since you arenโt supposed to teach it. Then they said they had anyway learned till ืืืชื ืื ืืื and he said then you already learned it.
ยท There is a ืืืืืงืช ืชื ืืื where ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื that you can be ืืืจืฉ goes to. Either to ืืืจื ืืชืจื or until ืืฉืื. From there till ืืืืืจ you can either only give ืจืืฉื ืคึผืจืงืื or another version is that up to that point you can give ืจืืฉื ืคึผืจืงืื but from that point on you just give it to a ืืืื ืืืขืชื.
ยท ืื ื ืื ืื ืืืงืื saved ืกืคืจ ืืืืงืื as he was ืืืืฉื the ืกืชืืจืืช from it to the Torah.
ยท Someone who darshens ืืขืฉื ืืจืืื but isnt ืจืืื can be killed ืจ"ื.
ยท ืืฉืื means ืืืืช ืืฉ ืืืืืืช or ืขืชืื ืืฉืืช ืขืชืื ืืืืืืช. They are quit when Hashem speaks and talk when he isnt speaking. They stick their heads above their level in ืฉืืื and quickly return it like a flickering fire between cracks.
ยท The ืคึผืกืืง says Hashem came from the North to conquer nations for ื ืืืืื ืฆืจ so no one should say that Hashem gave over the Jewish people to a lowly nation.
ยท ืกื ืืืคืื is taller than his friend 500 years and has stands on earth and his head reaches the ืืืืช and stands behind the ืืจืืื and ties crowns to his Master by using a ืฉื to lift the crown to Hashemโs โPlaceโ.
ยท Everything ืืืืงืื saw was also seen by ืืฉืขืื but ืืฉืขืื didnโt mention it because he was like a person living in the capital city who has seen the King many times and wasnโt as shocked by the site as a villager who never sees the King.
ยท Hashemโs throne has a picture of a lion, eagle, person and used to have a bull until ืืืืงืื davened and changed it to a childโs face so that it shouldnโt a ืงืืืืืจ due to ืืื ืืขืื.
ยท The ืืืืืื used to have six wings but after the ืืืจืื ืืืช ืืืงืืฉ they only have 4. Itโs a ืืืืืงืช which wings they lost. ืจื says the ones they said ืฉืืจื with (the ones they fly with.) However, the ืจืื ื say the ones they cover their feet with.
ยท In the time of the ืืืช ืืืงืืฉ Hashems legions were innumerable. After ืืืจืื ืืืช ืืืงืืฉ there are a million angels serving him and 100,000,000 before him. ืืื ืืืกื ืื ืืืกืื says there are a million angels per legion, but the number of legions is innumerable.
ยท ืจ' ืืจืืื ืืจ ืืื says the ืืืืืื mentioned above were just for being ืืฉืืฉ the river ืืื ืืจ. The ื ืืจ ืืื ืืจ is created by the sweat of the ืืืืช and falls on the head of ืจืฉืขืื in ืืืื ืื. ืจ' ืืื ืืจ ืืขืงื says based on a ืคึผืกืืง that it falls on the heads of the 974 generations that were supposed to have come before ืืชื ืชืืจื but were not created but rather spread throughout time and are known as the ืขืื ืืืืจ.
Daf 14
ยท Others learn that ืคึผืกืืง to be referring to ืฆืืืงืื who donโt sleep in this world since they are learning and they are ืืืื to the secrets of Torah in the next world.
ยท Some say that ืืืืืื are created every day and say ืฉืืจื and then are ืืื and others says they are created from Hashemโs words.
ยท One ืคึผืกืืง says Hashem has one throne and one says two. Several possibilities are suggested: One is for Hashem and one is for ืืื ืืืื but this is rejected. The second is one is for ืืื and one is for ืฆืืงื. The third possibility is one is for a throne and one is a footstool.
ยท ืืฉืขืื said 18 ืงืืืืช and wasnโt appeased till he said that the young wonโt respect the old nor will the low respect the honorable. The 18 curses were that Hashem would remove:
o ืืฉืขื -people who know ืืงืจื
o ืืืฉืขื ื-People who know ืืฉื ื
o ืื ืืฉืขื ืืื-People who know ืืืจื
o ืืื ืืฉืขื ืืื- People who know ืืืื
o ืืืืจ-someone with a lot of ืืงืืืืช
o ืืืืฉ ืืืืื- someone who knows how to fight in Torah
o ืฉืืคื-a judge who judges correctly
o ื ืืื
o ืืงืืกื-King
o ืืืงื-someone ืจืืื ืืืฉืืื
o ืฉืจ ืืืฉืื-Soemone who can argue in ืืืฉื ืืืืฉื ืชืืจื. However, ืจืื ืืืื sys it means someone who is 50 and old enough to have a person repeating his shiur loudly.
o ืื ืฉืื ืคื ืื- someone who in Heaven they ignore the worlds sins because of him.
o ืืืืขืฅ- Someone who knows how to make leap years and months
o ืืืื- Someone who makes his teacher wiser
o ืืจืฉืื- When he starts to speak everyone becomes silent.
o ืื ืืื ืืืฉ - someone who is ืืืื ืืืจ ืืชืื ืืืจ and fitting to Teach Torah to which was given quietly
o ืื ืชืชื ื ืขืจืื ืฉืจืืื ืืชืขืืืืื ืืืฉืื ืื - People empty from mitzvos will be their leaders and will be ruled by foxes.
ยท The final 19th curse was ืืจืืื ื ืขืจ ืืืงื ืื ืงืื ืื ืืื- Someone empty of ืืฆืืืช will be look down on someone full of ืืฆืืืช, and someone who treats important things lightly will look down on someone who treats ืืฆืืืช seriously.
ยท ืจื ืงืืื ื said that even in the bad times ืืจืืฉืืื always had honest people as when people would ask someone to be the Rabbi he would say I donโt know enough Torah and wouldnโt pretend he just forgot it.
ยท The fact that there were always honest people in ืืจืืฉืืื was about learning, but in terms of business they were not.
ยท The ืืืจื tells several stories of ืชื ืืื who were ืืืจืฉ ืืืขืฉื ืืจืืื and angels surrounded them and other miraculous things.
ยท Four people went into the ืคึผืจืืก: they were ืื ืขืืื, ืื ืืืื, ืืืจ, ืจืื ืขืงืืื.
o ืื ืขืืื died
o ืื ืืืื was ื ืืจืคื ืืขืชื
o ืืืจ went off the path
o ืจืื ืขืงืืื was unharmed
ยท ืื ืืืื says you canโt neuter any animal, not just one used for ืงืจืื ืืช. He was also asked about a ืืชืืื ืฉืขืืจื if she was permitted to a ืืื ืืืื, meaning is it possible she is still a ืืชืืื and the man did ืืืื. He responded this is not common and therefore we assume she was ืขืืืจื ืืืืืื.
Daf 15
ยท ืื ืืืื also said the space between the upper waters and lower waters is three fingers. However, ืจืื ืืืืฉืข said that ืื ืืืื was still not well. The ืืืจื brings several opinions as to what the space is: a thread, the space between two boards on a bridge, the space between two cloaks spread out over each other, and the space between two cups on top of each other.
ยท Then we have the story of ืืืจ. ืืืจ saw the ืืืื ืืืืืจืื sitting while writing the ืืืืชืื of the Jewish people. ืืืจ had a tradition that there is no sitting up in Heaven, so he said maybe there are two ืจืฉืืืืช. They whipped the ืืืื sixty lashes of fire presumably because he didnโt get up when ืืืจ saw him. But ืืืืืจืื was allowed to erase ืืืจโs merits, so ืืืจ decided to go off the ืืจื.
ยท The ืืืจื then brings that ืืืจ said Hashem built everything and its opposite which means ืฆืืืงืื ืืจืฉืขืื, ืื ืขืื ืืืืื ื, etc. If he is worthy, the ืฆืืืง gets his portion and the ืจืฉืขโs portion, and the ืจืฉืข getโs the inverse.
ยท ืจืื ืืืืจ also said from the ืคึผืกืืง that compares Torah to gold and glass that Torah is hard to acquire like gold but easy to lose like glass. ืืืจ said that it means that just like glass when it breaks can be melted down and fixed, so too ืช"ื who goes off can come back. When ืจืื ืืืืจ then asked ืืืจ to come back he said itโs too late for me as he heard from behind the curtain ืฉืืื ืื ืื ืฉืืืืื ืืืฅ ืืืืจ.
ยท A similar story occurred when they were walking on Shabbos and ืืืจ told ืจ' ืืืืจ to go back since he calculuated with his horseโs steps that they were about to pass ืชืืื ืฉืืช. Then ืจ' ืืืืจ said you ืืืจ should also turn back (meaning to Hashem ) and ืืืจ said again itโs too late for him. ืจ' ืืืืจ then dragged him to 13 ืืฉืืืืช and each child told him a ืคึผืกืืง that indicated there was no hope. The last one sounded like he misquoted a ืคึผืกืืง and said ืืืจโs name and either he killed him or would have killed him had he had a knife.
ยท When ืืืจ died he was not going to ืืืืื ืื because of his learning but not going to ืื ืขืื veacsue of his sins and ืจ' ืืืืจ said that whe he would die he would make sure ืืืจ was punished so he could get into ืื ืขืื and in fact when he died smoke came up from ืืืจโs tomb. ืจ' ืืืื ื said when he would die he would get out of ืืืืื ืื and when he died the smoke from ืืืจ โs tomb stopped.
ยท ืืืจโs daughter asked ืจืื for money and told him to look to his good and not his bad and a fire came down and licked ืจืื bench and ืจืื said if this is what is done for not good people how much more so for great people.
ยท How could ืจ' ืืืืจ have learned Torah from ืืืจ? Didnโt ืจ' ืืืื ื teach that if the Rebbe isnt like a ืืืื then donโt learn Torah from him? The ืืืจื brings two ืคึผืกืืงืื to say it is allowed, and the ืืื of ืจ' ืืืื ื is by a ืงืื but not by a ืืืื. In ืืขืจืื they said that ืจ' ืืืืจ ate the fruit and discarded the peel.
ยท Torah scholars are like almondsโeven if the shell gets dirty the stuff inside is good.
ยท Hashem wasnโt saying over Torah in ืจ' ืืืืจโs name because he learned Torah from ืืืจ until ืจืื ืืจ ืฉืืื said it was ok since he ate the fruit and discrade the peel and then Hashem said over Torah from ืจ' ืืืืจ.
ยท ืจ' ืืืืื was upset that ืืืื ืืืืืชืืคื were such big ืช"ื and yet had no ืืืง ืืขืืื ืืื so what would become of them? ืฉืืืื said ืืื ื ืืืชื ืืืืื.
ยท ืืืจ sang Greek songs and had many heretical books.
Daf 16
ยท ืจ"ืข knew where the ืฉืืื ื was to not look there as it can be seen from the ืืืืืื around him, plus it is a ืงืื ืืืื ืืงื.
ยท ืฉืืื have wings, fly across the entire Earth, and know the future like ืืืืื ืืฉืจืช. However, they eat, procreate, and die like humans.
ยท Humans have ืืขืช , walk upright, and talk ืืฉืื ืืงืืืฉ like ืืืืื ืืฉืจืช. However, they eat, procreate, and excrete like animals.
ยท Why canโt you look at what was (ืื ืืคื ืื)? The ืืืจื answers since it was like a city built on a trash heap its not nice to look at.
ยท Whoever is not careful with the honor of Hashem it is better he wasnโt in this world: this refers to someone who stares at a rainbow (it is similar to ืืืืช ืืืื ื) or to someone who sins in secret. The ืืืจื thatโs says one should sin where no one knows them is referring to if the person cannot control themselves.
ยท These three things hurt eyesight: staring at a rainbow, ื ืฉืื, and ืืื ืื when they duchen in the ืืืช ืืืงืืฉ and say the ืฉื ืืืคืืจืฉ.
ยท A person should not think that they can sin and Hashem will forgive. If a person sins, the walls will testify against him, and some say his ื ืฉืื will testify against him, and some say the angels that accompany him at death will testify against him, and some say his limbs will testify against him.
ยท ืืฉื ื There is a ืืืืืงืช ืชื ืืื over several generations as to whether one should do ืกืืืื on ืื"ื. It is a ืืืืืงืช as to which ืชื ืืื were ื ืฉืืืื and which were ืื ื"ืs.
ยท ืจืื ืืืืื ืื ืืืื and ืฉืืขืื ืื ืฉืื were part of that ืืืืืงืช. I ืจืื ืืืืื ืื ืืืื said that he killed an ืขื ืืืื to show that an ืขื ืืืื is killed before the person he was trying to kill is killed ืืืืฆืื ืืืื ืฉื ืฆืืืงืื. However, ืฉืืขืื ืื ืฉืื responded that he had killed an innocent man since you can only kill an ืขื ืืืื if both became ืืืื. Then ืจืื ืืืืื ืื ืืืื said he would never pasken without ืฉืืขืื ืื ืฉืื. The ืืืจื thought that was a proof that ืจืื ืืืืื ืื ืืืื was not an ืื ื"ื because if he was he wouldnโt have paskened in front of the ื ืฉืื. The ืืืจื is ืืืื that it means he wouldnโt even be ืืฆืืจืฃ without ืฉืืขืื ืื ืฉืื.
ยท The ืืฉื ื says ืื ืืleft. Where did he go? Some say off the ืืชืจืืืช ืจืขื and some say to work for the government with 80 students.
ยท ืจ' ืืืื ื said that even a ืฉืืืช ืืฆืื should not be light in our eyes as so many ืชื ืืื argues over ืกืืืื. He was teaching us with this that the ืืืืืงืช was not if you need ืกืืืื on a ืงืจืื ืืืื but rather if you could do it on ืื"ื.
ยท ืกืืืื requires all your might. Otherwise it would be allowed on ืื"ื.
ยท The ืืืจื brings a question from a ืืจืืืชื: It says that men do ืกืืืื but women do not. The second opinion says that women can do it if they want. Then it brings a story that women once wanted to do ืกืืืื and they let them to make them happy. The ืืืจื asks that if ืกืืืื was really with all ones might then how could they let women do ืกืืืื when it is ืขืืืื ืืงืืฉืื? The ืืืจื answers that they didnโt really let them do but rather they put their hands over it ืืื ืืขืฉืืช ื ืืช ืจืื ืื ืฉืื.
ยท ืจื ืคึผืคึผื wanted to prove from here that ืฆืืืื are ืืกืืจ since if not why couldnโt you just do ืกืืืื on the head? ืจื ืคึผืืฉื said one cannot prove whether ืฆืืืื are ืืกืืจ from this since the head where one does ืกืืืื is equal to the back and is not considered ืฆืืืื
Daf 17
ยท ืืฉื ื: The ืืฉื ื brings that ื"ืฉ says you donโt bring ืขืืืืช at all on ืื"ื and you bring ืฉืืืื but donโt do ืกืืืื on them. ื"ื says you bring both and do ืกืืืื on both. ื"ืฉ says that if ืฉืืืขืืช falls on Friday then the day of the ืฉืืืื of the ืงืจืื ืืช is Sunday and ื"ื says its on ืื"ื itself. However, ื"ื agreed that if ืฉืืืขืืช fell on Shabbos that the ืืื ืืืื was on Sunday. If that happens, you are allowed to have eulogies and fast and the ืืื ืืืื did not wear his ืื"ื clothes so as not to make it look like ืฉืืืขืืช always fall on Sunday like the ืฆืืืงืื said.
ยท The ืงืจืื ืืช of ืฉืืืขืืช have ืชืฉืืืืื all seven days. This is learned from the three holidays being ืืืงืฉ together, and just like there is ืชืฉืืืืื for Pesach all seven days, same for ืฉืืืขืืช. For ืกืืืืช, we learn that it requires ืืื ื.
ยท The ืืืจื brings a ืืจืืืชื that says count days make ืจ"ื (in regards to the ืงืจืื ืืืกืฃ) and count days and make ืฉืืืขืืช for itโs ืงืจืื ืืช) .So we think this means there is only one day for ืจ"ื the same is true for ืฉืืืขืืช. We are ืืืื that there is a ืืฆืื to count days and weeks for ืฉืืืขืืช and it is even called ืฉืืืขืืช!
ยท Another limud that there is ืชืฉืืืืื for ืฉืืืขืืช is that it says ืืงืจืืชื next to ืืืงืืฆืจืื. You canโt actually harvest except on ืืื ืืืืขื so it must be that it has ืชืฉืืืืื.
ยท We need the limud from both ืืืงืืฆืจืื and the ืืงืืฉ to know how many days you have ืชืฉืืืืื and to know that the ืืงืืฉ doesnโt mean that there is an ืืืกืืจ ืืืืื during the week of ืฉืืืขืืช.
Daf 18
ยท ืจ"ื learned it from ืื ืืงืฆืืจ but ืจ' ืืืื ื said it just means the time of harvest like by ืื ืืืกืืฃ where one cannot bring in from the field the whole week since it is ืืื ืืืืขื.
ยท They both hold ืืื ืืืืขื is ืืกืืจ in ืืืืื. Some learn it from ืื ืืืฆืืช ืชืฉืืืจ ืฉืืขืช ืืืื. Some learn it from a ืง"ื from ืจืืฉืื ืืฉืืืขื which donโt have kedusha before and after where ืืื ืืืืขื does. And even though ืจ"ื has ืืืกืฃ and the rest of the week that isnโt Shabbos is not ืืกืืจ, they arenโt called ืืงืจืื ืงืืืฉ.
ยท Another ืืจืืืชื brings the limud from other ืคึผืกืืงืื Yet another ืืจืืืชื says ืฉืฉืช ืืืื ืชืืื ืืฆืืช ืืืืื ืืฉืืืขื ืขืฆืจืช which tells you that they are all ืขืฆืืจ from some ืืืืื but not all and ืืกืจื ืืืชืื ืืืืืื to decide what is ืืกืืจ and what is ืืืชืจ.
ยท ืจืื ืืจืคืื who stopped a ืืกืคึผื on ืืื ืืืื must have been a ืืื ืืืื where ืฉืืืขืืช fell on a day other than Shabbos.
Daf 19
ยท ืืฉื ื: One must wash ื ืืืืช ืืืื for ืืืืื ืืขืฉืจ, ืืชืจืืื. For ืงืืืฉ one must be ืืืื his hands. For ืืคืจ ืืืืช one must be ืืืื his whole body. If you are ืืืื for a lower level you are only ืืืืจ for the lower level and not the higher level. Also, the clothes of a lower level will be considered ืืื ืืืืืช ืืืจืก for anyone on a higher level.
ยท The ืืืจื asks that there is a ืืจืืืชื that says that one does not need to wash for ืืืืื ืืืขืฉืจ ืฉื ื which is against our ืืฉื ื which says you need to wash for both. The ืืืจื attempts to answer that there is another ืืจืืืชื which says that while ืจ' ืืืืจ did not require ื ืืืืช ืืืื for ืืืืื ืืืขืฉืจ ืฉื ื but the ืจืื ื did require it for ืืขืฉืจ which would at least help for the ืืขืฉืจ question. The ืืืืื question we wanted to answer that our ืืฉื ื means eating and the ืืจืืืชื meant touching. The problem is that we know that even the ืจืื ื agreed that for touching ืืขืฉืจ ืฉื ื and even eating ืืืืื you donโt need washing. So we answer that the ืืฉื ื was talking about bread and the ืืจืืืชื was talking about fruit as ืจื ื ืืื said anyone who washes their hands for fruit is a ืืขื ืืืื. Of course for real ืชืจืืื you need to wash before even touching it.
ยท If you washed your hand or were ืืืืื your hands unintentionally for something, if it was for ืืืืื itโs good enough but if itโs for ืืขืฉืจ ืฉื ื and up it need ืืืื ื.
ยท We attempt to prove this from the ืืฉื ื of ืื ืฉื ืชืืฉ where both man and ืืืื are ืืืืจ and we assume there wads no ืืืื ื. We are ืืืื that perhaps he was waiting for the wave to to come, and the ืืืืืฉ is that we donโt make a ืืืจื by the wave that it might be confused with a ืืจืืืืช ืฉื ืื ืืฉืืื or with ืืืคึผืื. The issue with ืืจืืืืช is either the slant or ืืืืืื.
ยท We then say we learn that you donโt need ืืืื ื from a ืืฉื ื that says that if you stick your hands in water to get fruit then your hands are ืืืืจ (but your fruit is not ืืื ืืืชื unless you also wanted your hands to get wet on purpose in which case you are happy about the fruit getting wet).
ยท ืจ"ื says once you were ืืืื and came out of the mikvah you can still decide which level of ืืืจื you wish to be at (ืืขืฉืจ, ืชืจืืื, etc). We ask a question from a ืืจืืืชื that sounds like you can only change levels if you still have one foot in the water but we are ืืืื that if you have one foot in the water you can change your mind as to which level you want to be at but once you come out you cant change your mind. However, if you never picked anything, you can decide even after you fully came out of the mikvah.
ยท ืจ' ืคึผืืช says that the opinion that says it matters if one foot is in the mikvah goes like ืจ' ืืืืื who says that if there is a mikvah with exactly the 40 ืกืื you need and one person goes in the mikvah and still has a foot in then the second guy can still use the mikvah as we view the water on the first guy as connected to the mikvah through ืืื ืืืืช. (The ืจืื ื say it doesnโt work even if his foot is still in the mikvah.)
ยท Some say the ืืืืืงืช ืจ' ืืืืื ืืจืื ื is only by ืืขืืืช ืืจืื ื but by real ืืืืื everyone agrees it doesnโt work. Others say that the ืืืืืงืช ืจ' ืืืืื ืืจืื ื is only by ืืืืจืืืชื ืืืืื but by ืืขืืืช ืืจืื ื everyone agrees it works. The second option cannot work with ืจ' ืคึผืืช since he said that they argue by ืืขืืืช ืืจืื ื by being ืืืืืง yourself.
ยท The ืืืจื asks if we would allow someone to be ืืืื a needle in his hair. In other words, do we also say ืืื ืืกืืง. We bring a ืืจืืืชื where there were three pools of waterโthe top and bottom had twenty ืกืื and the middle had 40. ืจ' ืืืืื says that only the bottom tewo may be used but not the top so you see we hold we donโt say ืืื ืืกืืง.
ยท The ืืฉื ื differentiates between ืืขืฉืจ and ืืืืื at the beginning, yet then when it says the part about clothes being a ืืืจืก to others says ืืืื ืคึผืจืืฉืื ืืืจืก ืืืฉืืื ืชืจืืื and skips ืืขืฉืจ which is like ืจ' ืืืืจ who said you could eat ืืขืฉืจ without washing. So either the ืืฉื ื begins like ืจ' ืืืืื and ends like ืจ' ืืืืจ or The ืืืจืกื in the ืืฉื ื is incorrect and actually has five ืืขืืืช and includes ืืขืฉืจ.
Daf 20
ยท ืจื ืืจื wanted to prove from our ืืฉื ื that ืืืืื ืฉื ืขืฉื ืขื ืืืจืช ืืงืืืฉ are considered like ืงืืืฉ since the ืืฉื ื doesnโt make mention of any in between ืืขืืืช. The ืืืจื is ืืืื that it may be that it is considered like ืชืจืืื or ืืืืื. In fact, it is a ืืืืืงืช ืชื ืืื if it is like ืชืจืืื or ืืืืื. If like ืชืจืืื itโs presumably because we donโt consider it quite like ืงืืืฉ just because someone wants to use it for practice and if like ืืืืื itโs because ืืืื ืืขืชื of someone who considers their ืืืืื to be like ืงืืืฉ.
ยท We then prove it from the ืกืืคื which says that that ืืืื ื ืื ืืืืืื ate ืืืืื ืฉื ืขืฉื ืขื ืืืจืช ืืงืืืฉ and his clothes were ืืืจืก ืืืืืื ืืืืช which sounds like not for ืงืืืฉ so you see that ืืืืื ืฉื ืขืฉื ืขื ืืืจืช ืืงืืืฉ are ืืงืืืฉ.
ยท If someoneโs hat falls and someone else picks up their hat for them it is considered a ืืืกื ืืืขืช and the hat is ืืื since ืืื ืืื ืฉืืืจ ืื ืฉืืื ืืืจื.
ยท If someone confused their weekday clothes with their Shabbos clothes it is considered a ืืืกื ืืืขืช and the Shabbos clothes are ืืื since by Shabbos clothes you do a better ืฉืืืจื.
ยท Two women ืืืืจืืช mixed up their clothes and it was considered ืืื because each one thinks the other is not a ืืืจ and has a ืืืกื ืืืขืช.
ยท Originally, the ืืืจื thinks all of the case above are becasue you need ืฉืืืจื on the specific item that you think you are dealing with.
ยท The ืืืจื asks that we have a ืืจืืืชื that says that if you watch a jug thinking its wine and it ends up being oil it is ืืืืจ ืืืืื but ืืกืืจื ืืืืืื. From the fact that it is ืืืืจ ืืืืื we had thought is a proof that you donโt need to have kavan about which item you are watching. However, since the ืกืืคื says you cant eat it we are forced to conclude that you only watched it ืืืืจ ืืืืืื ืืื ืืืืจ ืืคึผืืกืื. However, the proof stands as your ืฉืืืจื ืืืืจ ืืืืืื worked even though you thought it was wine and it was oil.
ยท We see that one can do the half ืฉืืืจื ืืืืจ ืืืืืื ืืื ืืืืจ ืืคึผืืกืื from the following ืืจืืืชื which says if you have a sack with a shovel and donโt have intention to watch the shovel, the sacks isืืืืจ but the shovel is not. The shovel is not ืืืื the sack itself because a ืืื is not ืืืื other ืืืื (assuming it isnโt an ืื ืืืืืื). It also isnโt ืืืื the dates in the sack because the person watched it ืืืืจ ืืืืืื ืืื ืืืืจ ืืคึผืืกืื. (Once you say that you can say the same thing for why it isnโt the sack itself as well.)
ยท We are still left with a question that if you watch something thinking itโs one item and it is in fact another that the ืฉืืืจื does work so why should the women who mixed up their clothes and the Shabbos clothes that got mixed up and the hat that fell have an issue? Furthermore we see from other ืืจืืืชืืช that you just need to have in mind to watch something but it doesnโt say you need to know exactly which item you are thinking about.
ยท The ืืืจื answers as mentioned above that each woman thinks the other is not a ืืืจ, and Shabbos clothes have a different level of ืฉืืืจื, and you canโt watch something that is someone elseโs hands.
ยท The ืืืจื asks that we have a case where if you give your workers something ืืืืจ and they go far away but they know you can still come it is ืืืืจ (If they think you wont come it is ืืื). How is it that the workers are watching it for you if you are far away when we just said you canโt watch something in someone elseโs hands. The ืืืจื answers that you were ืืืืจ your workers so we donโt care if they touch it. Nonetheless, if you canโt come they wonโt stop other people from touching it.
