332. Behavior in Shul

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 11:6

One may not act frivolously in shul; this includes joking around and idle conversation. We may not eat or drink in a shul, nor use it for our personal benefit. One may not use it to seek shelter from the sun or the rain. Scholars and their students are permitted to eat and drink in a shul because of the difficulty it would cause them otherwise.

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 11:7

One may not calculate accounts in shul except for the purpose of a mitzvah, such as collecting of charity, redeeming captives, etc. Eulogies should not be delivered in a shul except for those that concern the masses, like the eulogy of a great scholar of that city, which everyone would attend.
