Based on Nefesh Shimshon by Rav Shimshon Pincus, zt”l

As we know, there is a special halachah of wearing Shabbos clothing. Said Reb Elazar: Bathe and anoint yourself and put on your garments. These are the garments of Shabbos.

The idea of changing into Shabbos clothes is learned from the bigdei kehunah.

Vaykira 6:4 — “And he, the kohein, shall remove his garments and wear different ones.”

Just as the kohanim in the Beis Hamikdash had special garments, so too we have special garments.

A person’s clothing expresses who he is. The bigdei kehunah are actually the garments of angels.

Malach Gavriel is called, “the man clothed in linen.”

The bigdei kehunah are made primarily from linen.

The kohanim doing their avodah were as devoted to Hashem as angels.

That is why they wear the clothing of angels.

Rav Shimshon zt"zl shared:

When I was a young boy in Williamsburg, we had a neighbor with a menial job.

I would see him walking around all week in soiled work clothing.

But when Shabbos came, he donned a splendid shtreimel and a bekeshe with a lovely floral design.

With his flowing beard, you would think he’s a rebbe.

I didn’t even recognize him!

On Shabbos, we all wear different and special clothing because then we behave as different and elevated people.

We are as dedicated to purity as the Kohanim in the Beis Hamikdash.

Let’s Reflect:

Who would have thought our clothing holds so much power?

But we see they can liken us to Kohanim.

How can we input change into our Shabbos wardrobes?

Maybe refrain from greeting the Shabbos Queen in bathrobes and slippers?

Or drinking Shabbos coffee in house robes?

We each know where we need to improve in order to honor Shabbos best
