#415: Taking Action
1. We mentioned yesterday that in our time, fires are generally considered dangerous and Shabbat may be violated to put them out or help rescue anyone who may be in danger from them. Even fires that break out in non-residential areas can ultimately cause danger and therefore may be put out according to many poskim (Rav Doniel Neustadt, https://outorah.org/p/50164). In addition to calling the fire department, one may also call the electric company to tell them to turn off the electric supply to the building if needed (Yalkut Yosef 334:2).
2. One should call the fire department in any case of fire, even if it is possible that they have already been called. Even if it turns out they have been called already, one receives reward for their good intentions (ibid.).
