4,143. Carrying an Ox Burnt Offering
Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:18
Twenty-four kohanim carry an ox burnt offering to the altar, as follows: (1) the head; (2-3) the right hindleg; (4-5) the tail; (6-7) the left hindleg; (8) the chest; (9-11) the neck; (12-13) the two forelegs; (14-15) the two sides; (16-18) the innards; (19-21) the flour; (22-24) the wine.
Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:19
The large limbs of an ox were not divided into smaller parts because Leviticus 1:6 says, “You shall cut it into its parts” – but those parts should not be cut into parts. The aforementioned numbers of kohanim are required for communal burnt offerings, but if one wanted to bring the parts of a private burnt offering with fewer kohanim or with more kohanim, he may do so.
