1. During the ninth month, when preparing for the possibility of a Shabbat birth, one should change the settings on one’s car, if this is an option, so that buttons do not have to be pressed to open the door and that lights will not go on unnecessarily (Yalkut Yosef, O.C. 330).

2. One is not required to spend Shabbat close to the hospital during the ninth month in order to reduce chilul Shabbat in traveling (Orchot Shabbat 20:76). Some write that this is preferable if at all possible (ibid.), but the accepted custom in most cases is not to do so. Moreover, it is permitted to stay further away from the hospital than one’s home if necessary during the ninth month, such as for a family simcha (ibid.).
