4,092. The Nine Types of Oil

There are nine types of oil, based on differences in their manufacture: (1) oil that flows from olives that were picked from the top of the tree, individually selected, crushed and placed in a basket. (2) If one later placed a beam on the olives to press them. (3) If one places a beam on them to press them a second time. (4) Oil from olives that were picked en masse, brought to the roof, selected individually, crushed and placed in a basket. (5) If one later placed a beam on the olives to press them. (6) If one places a beam on them to press them a second time. (7) Oil from olives that were picked and put in the vat until they started to break down, at which point they were taken to the roof, dried and put in a basket. (8) If one later placed a beam on the olives to press them. (9) If one places a beam on them to press them a second time.

While all of the preceding oils may be brought with the flour offerings, the oil of the first type is the optimum oil. The oils in categories 2 and 4 are next best, followed by the oils in categories 3, 5 and 7. These are followed by the oils in categories 6 and 8. The oil in category 9 is the lowest kind.
