4,074. Leaven and Honey on the Altar
Hilchos Issurei Mizbeiach 4:18
If the thing given in exchange for a dog was changed – such as if he exchanged a dog for wheat, which he then ground into flour – it is permitted. A gift given to a dog and the exchange of a prostitute are permitted. The wages of prostitution and the exchange of a dog may be donated for Temple upkeep because they become changed. The actual gift paid to a prostitute may not be used as metal plates for the Temple. This is because Deuteronomy 23:19 – “for every vow” – is understood to include metal plates.
Hilchos Issurei Mizbeiach 5:1
Even the smallest traces of leaven and honey are prohibited for the altar, as per Leviticus 2:11: “No leaven or honey may be offered….” One is only liable if he burned it with an offering or for the purpose of an offering. One is liable to the penalty of lashes for each of these things separately regardless of whether he offers them individually or mixed together. If he offers both of them simultaneously, he is only liable for one set of lashes because they are recorded in a single prohibition.
