#337: Thin Baby Cereal

1. Baby cereals prepared completely as a liquid, such as liquid formula, may be prepared normally, since this is considered a drink and not a mixture subject to losh. One should make sure to pour in a significant amount of liquid at the beginning so it never has the consistency of a thin or thick mixture at any point (Shemirat Shabbat K'hilchatah 8:23).

2. Baby cereals may also be prepared as a thin mixture (i.e., with the consistency of a thin batter) using shinuim of the order of pouring and mixing unusually, as discussed previously. As noted previously, some allow using only one shinui of mixing unusually. In addition, in this case, one can also shake the mixture gently as a shinui, though this shinui is not effective in many other cases, where it is not significantly different from the normal method of mixing (Chazon Ish). We will discuss thick mixtures of baby cereals tomorrow.
