4,016. Kohanim With Temporary Blemishes

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 6:2

A kohein with a temporary blemish who performs the service also invalidates it and is subject to lashes, as per Leviticus 21:18: “Anyone who has a blemish shall not draw near.” Our oral tradition teaches that this is a warning against a kohein with a blemish serving. If a kohein with a blemish serves, he isn’t subject to death (from Heaven); rather, he is subject to lashes.

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 6:3

All blemishes disqualify a kohein until such time as they have passed. This applies regardless of whether they are congenital or acquired, and whether they will eventually pass or not.
