4,013. How Sanctification Was Performed

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 5:15

The “sea” (yam) that King Solomon made was like a mikvah because a channel of water from the Eitam spring passed through it. Therefore, its water wasn’t invalidated overnight like the water of the kiyor. In fact, the kiyor was filled from the “sea.”

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 5:16

The mitzvah of sanctification is as follows: A kohein put his right hand on his right foot and his left hand on his left foot, then bent over to sanctify them. Anything that constitutes an interposition when it comes to immersing in a mikvah would also be an interposition when it comes to sanctification. One may not sanctify while seated because the sanctification is like a form of service and the service could only be performed standing, as per Deuteronomy 18:5: “To stand to serve.”
