The southeastern chamber in the women’s section was called the nazirite chamber; this was where nazirites cooked their peace offerings and shaved their hair. The northeastern chamber was called the woodpile chamber; this is where kohanim with disqualifying blemishes checked the firewood for worms because if a worm was found, the wood was unfit for sacrificial use. The northwestern chamber was called the leper chamber. The southwestern chamber, called the oil house chamber, was where they stored wine and oil.

The women’s section was surrounded by balconies; this was so women could watch from above and men from below without mixing.
