3,820. Redeeming Levite Land

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 13:6

One may not knock down his house and turn it into a garden, nor may one plant a garden in the ruins of his house (i.e., the land is designated for a residence). Doing this is destructive to the land of Israel.

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 13:7

Kohanim and Leviim who sold fields from the fields surrounding their cities, or who sold houses from among those in their walled cities, do not redeem their property in the same ways as we described in chapters 11-12. Rather, they may sell their fields even right before yoveil and redeem them right away. If they consecrated a field, they may redeem it from the Temple after yoveil. They can redeem houses in walled cities whenever they like, even years later, as per Leviticus 25:32: “The Levites shall have perpetual redemption.”
