3,762. The Time for the Removal of Leaves
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:15
The laws of shemittah apply to the pomegranate peels and buds, nutshells and fruits seeds, as well as to the money received in exchange for these things, but they need not be removed. Shemittah applies to the tips of grape vines and carob trees, as well as to the money received for them, and they must be removed. Shemittah applies to the tips of holly oak branches, pistachio branches and African boxthorn branches, as well as to the money received for them, but they need not be removed. Their leaves, however, must be removed.
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:16
The time for the removal of leaves is when they dry up and fall off the tree. There’s no removal time for the leaves of olive trees, reeds and carob trees because they don’t dry up and fall off.
